Trespasser charged after homeowner holds him at gunpoint

handcuffs A 17 year old Racine teen has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, and one count misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was given a $500 cash bond after making his initial appearance Thursday in Racine Circuit Courts.

According to the criminal complaint, on August 10th at 7:17 p.m. officers with the Racine Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Grand Ave for reports of a suspect trespassing and the homeowner had him on the ground at gunpoint. Upon arrival one officer was on scene and had the defendant detained. Officers spoke with the homeowner who stated that he was outside grilling out in his back yard when the defendant appeared in his backyard which is completely fenced in with a cyclone fence. The victim fearful for his safety and the safety of his family ordered the defendant to the ground at gun point and flagged down an officer who was passing by at the time.

The defendant stated he was running from a loose dog in the area, officers were not able to locate and animal and dispatch stated there were no animal at large reports at that time and had given officers an incorrect name. When officers confronted the defendant he stated he lied because he was scared and he knew he had a capias for his arrest for being a runaway and thought the passing officer had seen him.
