Suspect charged after dragging officer while fleeing a traffic stop, crashing injuring 2 children

micheal-wright Michael A Wright JR, 26 of Racine has been charged with two counts of Hit and Run-Involve Injury, two counts 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and one count of Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer. He was given a $25,000 cash bond after appearing in Racine Circuit Courts Wednesday afternoon. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 8. According to Racine County Jail records the Wisconsin Department of Corrections has placed a hold on him

According to the complaint on Tuesday November 22,2016 Racine Police executed a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Memorial Drive. As officers approached the vehicle they recognized the defendant as having active warrants. When the defendant was advised that he had warrants and to step out from the vehicle, officers observed the defendant put the vehicle in reverse, the officer who tried to open the door was dragged 20-40 feet before the defendant speed away at a high rate of speed from the scene. As officers approached the intersection of Memorial and Durand they located the vehicle which had been in an accident and the defendant had fled the scene

Officers tended to the victims which were children ages 7 and 9 who were injured according to the complaint, and spoke with the driver who stated that he was at the intersection when the defendant struck him head on at a high rate of speed. Another victim stated that the defendant had struck her vehicle before hitting the other car and the defendant had fled on foot. The defendant was located on South Memorial Drive just south of Winthrop and was taken into custody.
