Serious Accident Closes Washington Ave & Ohio Street Area

9:54 am-Racine Police and the Racine Fire Department are on scene for a serious accident at Washington & Ohio Streets. Multiple 911 calls came in stating there was a 2 vehicle accident involving a garbage truck and there is a person believed to be a DPW worker pinned between the vehicles according to radio reports. Flight For Life has been activated and will be en route to Ascension/All Saints Hospital

ETA for FFL should be 10:23 am, patient was transported to Ascension Health/All Saints

10:52 am-State Patrol is en route at this time. Intersections along Washington Ave at this time are closed to traffic from Ohio Street to Indiana. The accident scene is in the 4400 block of Washington Ave.

Update from Racine Police
On Wednesday, December 14, 2016, the Racine Police Department responded to a traffic accident involving a vehicle and a City of Racine garbage truck. The accident occurred on Washington Ave. and Oregon St. One party was injured as a result of the accident. The injured party was taken via Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital. The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by our Traffic Unit. No other information is being released at this time.
