MORE Community Input for the Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan

Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan Meeting Invitation Part 2-page-001 (1)Members of the public will have another opportunity to provide input and comment on the proposed future
bicycle / sidewalk routes in the Racine area at the next City of Racine Bike & Pedestrian Master Plan
meeting on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm at Festival Hall-Racine.

The City of Racine Health Department and the Wisconsin Bike Federation began the Master Plan early last
year to identify and map a network of bikeways in the Racine. In 2015, a group of bicycle riders toured areas in
Racine and identified respectable and deprived conditions for riding. In addition, an initial Master Plan
meeting was held in October which yielded input from over 70 community members.

During the August meeting, attendees will learn about the initial Master Plan draft recommendations, interact
with the Advisory Council members, and have an opportunity to provide personal perceptions and opinions.
Dottie-Kay Bowersox, Public Health Administrator stated “Attendees should include people who are
interested in seeing an improvement to the bike / pedestrian routes in the City of Racine, Village of Elmwood
Park and Village of Wind Point, whether they are used for recreation or transportation.”

Organizers hope for contributing comments which identify routes they currently use for bicycling or would
like to use, as well as areas that are barriers to bicycling or bicycling destinations. This project also aims to link the City of Racine to other established bike lanes and bike trails in surrounding jurisdictions. After the public meeting, the feedback will be reviewed and taken into account as potential routes are drafted, further
investigated and studied.
