Man charged with Homicide in Connection with Roosevelt Ave Shooting

phalon-hunter-barkerPhalon Hunter-Barker, 25 of Racine has been charged with felony 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide and Possess Firearm-Convicted of a Felony. He made his initial appearance Monday in Racine Circuit Court, he was given a $100,000 cash bond.

According to the criminal complaint on November 11, 2016 Investigators with the Racine Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Roosevelt regarding a male party that was found deceased. Upon arrival Investigators noted that the victim, Anthony Jones,  had suffered a gunshot wound to his chest.

Investigators interviewed a witness who had children with the Jones. According to her statements she had been with the defendant at Mr. Kool’s and Ulta Lounge and Jones allegedly showed up and began  to question her. She stated that the defendant and her were just friends.

The defendant decided to drive with the female party to his relatives where they were allegedly confronted by the victim again. A verbal altercation ensued between the female party and the victim and according to reports he allegedly struck her causing her to fall to the ground.

According to the criminal complaint the witness stated that she heard gunshots and saw the defendant shooting at the victim, but did not see where Jones had run to. The defendant allegedly disappeared from the residence on Roosevelt Ave, returned and then dropped the witness off at home.

A search warrant was executed at the defendant’s relatives apartment where Racine Police recovered a 38 special in a locked storage unit belonging to the relative and reports state that the weapon recovered was consistent with the injury to the victim and the projectile recovered from the victim
